April Meeting 4/18/24

The April meeting of the LA 3-D Club will take place on Thursday, April 18 from 7:00pm – 9:30pm at the Velaslavasay Panorama, 1122 W 24th St, Los Angeles, CA 90007

This month we will be welcoming special guest, Deborah Denker, the granddaughter of noted stereo photographer Stergis M. Stergis, who was a longtime member of the Stereo Club of Southern California and served as the club’s president  from 1968-1969. Deborah will share a selection of her grandfather’s stereo slides, and will show us some of his equipment.

Club member David Starkman shares this memory, “While most of the current club members may not have met or known Deborah’s grandfather, Stergis M. Stergis, my wife Susan Pinsky and I joined the LA3DClub (formerly the Stereo Club of Southern California) in 1977. So we knew Stergis and Maude, and attended many board meetings at their house in Brentwood. We’ll never forget one evening when Stergis set up a 10′x10′ rear projection screen, and projected a whole bunch of 3-D slides automatically using a customized Spindler & Sauppé projector. It was truly spectacular.

We’ll never forget his mastery of taking close up photos of flowers, with incredibly beautiful lighting. Also, the way he captured ocean waves at sunset. Many of Stergis’ images have been digitized are are now shared in the club archives.

The meeting will conclude with a club member “Show-and-Tell.” We would love to see your favorite 3-D images and collectibles. Members are encouraged to share an item of interest with the rest of the attendees. Share you favorite photos, videos, and 3-D items.
