While we hope to be able to meet in person again very soon, we are currently holding virtual meetings.
The February virtual meeting of the LA 3-D Club will take place on Thursday, February 17th from 7:00pm – 8:30pm on Zoom at la3d.club.
This month we’ll be exploring, “Lasting Impressions,” a new multimedia music, art, and 3D film experience. It’s designed to be immersive and let the audience step into some of the world’s most beautiful works of art to truly immersive you with a century-old paintings. They come from a century or so ago, from the likes of Renoir, Monet, Seurat, Gauguin, Cezanne and Degas. Renoir’s great-granddaughter introduces the 55-minute film, telling us the greats “were creating something beyond reality … something, perhaps, even more beautiful.” And that’s part of the beautiful contradictions of the experience. The art is impressionistic, but the 3D effect somehow makes it all more real. The show recently finished it’s Florida tour, is currently playing in South Korea, and will be expanding in the US in mid-2022. We will be joined by several members of the team that brought “Lasting Impresions” to life.

“My love for 3D started when I was young, by my father would loved technology and would talk about the 3D movies he grew up seeing. It wasn’t until Avatar came out in theatres that I really thought about connecting with your audience using Stereo and after the release of that film I dove head first into learning all I could about 3D as a storyteller. I bought a Panasonic z-10000 to start experimenting with my own 3D shorts and how to bring your audience into a story. I went to the 3Days of 3D Workshop in LA where I was introduced to a lot of the people who influenced my ability to make a 3D feature. Pina and TS Spivet were two films that really helped shape the creative vision behind 40 Below and Falling in 3D as we used a LG 3D TV to break down each scene looking at where the screenplane was and what type of depth budget they used alongside the negative/positive parallax to tell the story. We then built our own 3D beamsplitter to bring 40 Below to life in 3D. My love for stereo as a storytelling tool continues to grow and I’m excited to continue to create in that medium.”
