June Meeting on 6/15

LA 3-D CLUB JUNE MEETING

The next regular meeting of the Los Angeles 3-D Club will be Thursday, June 15,  7:15-9:45pm at the Armory Center For the Arts 145 N. Raymond, Pasadena, CA 91103.

We’ll take a look at the movies and comics from the Golden Age of 3-D in the 1950s:
The period between 1952 and 1955 saw the release of fifty 3-D movies, including the horror/sci-fi classics House of Wax, Creature From The Black Lagoon, and Robot Monster. Between 1953-1954, fifty 3-D comic books were also published, ranging from Mighty Mouse and The Three Stooges to Tales From The Crypt, Superman and Batman. The 1950s 3-D fad produced some remarkable art, but it only lasted a short time before burning out. We will discuss and show examples from 3-D’s Golden Age of movies and comics to learn how the craze began, why it ended. and what work is being done now to restore and preserve these unique parts of our cultural media history.

We’ll also get ready for the 4th of July with a look at the 3-D film “Fireworks Over Liberty Lake” by Mark Willke, and Takashi Sekitani’s latest hyperstereo fireworks video “Fireworks With Love Song.”

The meeting is free, and open to the public.
