While we hope to be able to meet in person again very soon, we are currently holding virtual meetings.
The November virtual meeting of the LA 3-D Club will take place on Thursday, November 18th from 7:00pm – 8:30pm on Zoom at la3d.club.
The evening will feature the second competition of the 2021-2022 LA 3-D Club year. The special theme for this month is STREET LIFE. Club members may enter their images into the competition by using the UPLOADER which will be available online until 11:59pm on Friday, November 12th. We will show competition submissions during the meeting and announce results of the competition judging which will take place earlier.
The competition will be judged by people individually at their own homes, rather than in a group setting. The judges will be able to view the images on a large screen 3D TV, but we can’t completely control the conditions under which judging will occur. However, entrants can safely assume that judges will be viewing images on a large (>42 inch) 16:9 aspect ratio screen, with a minimum resolution of 1920×1080. So, prepare your images accordingly, and submit them through the uploader as usual. And, the theme awards will be chosen as usual, too.
LA 3D Club 2021-22 Competition Themes and Entry Deadlines
Over the next few LA 3-D Club meetings we will be showcasing the winning 3D Theater shows from this year’s National Stereoscopic Association’s Virtual 3D-Con, which was held in August 2021. This month we will show two short documentaries by award winner Michael Toth, who received the honor Best Show By A First Time Presenter.
Habitats: The Urban Housing Futurism of Moshe Safdie eplores physical models of 50 years of visionary urban housing projects by Moshe Safdie, architect of Habitat at Expo 67. Mode Expo 67/Fashioning Expo 67 documents a Montreal museum exhibit of vintage, mod fashion design for Expo 67.
Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, Michael Toth is a self-confessed media hoarder with, among other obsessions, a “thing” for analog and digital stereo discs of both the phonic and optical variety. With finite options to satisfy his insatiable hunger for three-dimensional optical media, combined with a conviction to preserve reality in 3-D, eventually he fell into shooting his own stereoscopic stuff with a Sony TD10 and a Fuji W1. Extracurricular activities include a weekly, eccentric, freeform radio show that he hosts under his DJ moniker “Tothar” on Internet station LuxuriaMusic.com.
In addition, we will check out LA 3-D Club member and past president Barry Rothstein’s award winning photos from the Photographic Society of America’s 2021 3D Sequence competition.
The meeting will conclude with a club member “Show-and-Tell.” We would love to see your favorite 3-D image, camera, or collectible. Members are encouraged to share an item of interest with the rest of the attendees.
Please join our meeting from your computer, tablet or smartphone.
Members can sign in early at 6:30pm to socialize. All are welcome to attend.
