Enjoy a Variety of 3D Content at the July Virtual Meeting By David W. Kuntz
I’m acting as “guest program director” for the July meeting since our regular program director Eric Kurland will be attending Comic-Con on that date. I’ve taken advantage of the virtual meeting format to bring together an eclectic program from presenters who are not local to Los Angeles. The meeting will consist of three segments, as follows:
The Amazing Macro World of Leroy Harding
Leroy Harding is a portrait photographer based in Harrogate, England. He became interested in macro photography during the COVID lockdown and has made 100s of images of insects. He is fascinated by the details – and sometimes beauty – that people don’t normally see in this particular subject material. This motivated him to photograph these subjects in a way that is different than the norm – exploring different angles whenever possible. After a year of trial and error, he constructed his own 360° Macro Shooting Rig which produces images from every angle around the subject. He also employs focus stacking – a technique that can create a single image where everything is in focus. Just a short time ago, he found a way to convert these images into stereoscopic views. Leroy will describe his methods and share some examples of his stunning work with us.
Leroy Harding will show us his macro insect images and share the techniques he uses for making them.
Disneyland View-Master Replica Envelopes by Carl Wilson
Club member Carl Wilson has a long history with Disneyland, working there as a magician, and later producing a stunning series of high-dynamic range nighttime photos of the park. His latest Disneyland related effort involves creating replica and fantasy View-Master envelopes. If it’s a rare or ruined vintage envelope, he makes recreations that closely mimic the originals. If it doesn’t exist, he makes it up from scratch. Carl will share some of the artwork he’s developed for a variety of envelopes and also provide tips on how you can make them yourself. So, if you want to give your own loose reels a home, or just enjoy the artwork and creativity that goes into making these envelopes, tune in to see Carl’s presentation.
Carl Wilson will show us how he makes “authentic” fake View-Master reel envelopes of Disneyland subjects.
ISU Code Show
The ISU CODE (Club Online Digital Exchange) Show presents a gallery of still 3D images contributed by photographers from the various member organizations of the International Stereoscopic Union. We’ll see a segment of the latest CODE show which just happens to include contributions from our own LA 3D Club members.
The ISU CODE show we’ll view is an 11 minute long presentation showing about 70 still 3D images from photographers around the world.
Please join our meeting from your computer, tablet or smartphone.
Members can sign in early at 6:30pm to socialize. All are welcome to attend.
