Club Outing to Forest Lawn Museum 3/6/22

We’re excited to announce our first club outing in a very long time! Please join us at 11am on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at the Forest Lawn Museum in Glendale for a guided tour. This is a free event and will be a great opportunity to brush off your 3-D cameras and meet up with fellow enthusiasts. Following the tour, you can explore more of the grounds on your own.

The first part of the tour will be of the current temporary exhibit Unveiling The Past: The Art & History of Forest Lawn. Revealing the history behind the iconic art and architecture of Forest Lawn, the exhibition includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, stained glass, maps, archival photographs, and more, which are drawn primarily from Forest Lawn Museum’s permanent collection. Some of the objects are more than 100 years old, and many of the artworks have never before been exhibited.

Highlights of the exhibition include original architectural renderings from the 1930s and 1940s, a series of pictorial maps that depict the park as monuments were gradually added, archival photographs of hand-painted billboards, and a marble copy of the Venus de Milo that Forest Lawn acquired in the 1920s.

Following the exhibit tour, our group will be guided to the Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection to view massive 195 feet long x 45 feet high paintings and then move on to the Court of David which features marble-facade niches with three notable bas-reliefs of classic Italian artworks. At its center, a marvelous 17-foot bronze replica of the statue of Michelangelo’s David.

Our total tour time will be approximately 75 minutes. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a mask. Per current guidelines, masks must be worn indoors. Photography is permitted throughout the tour, but no flash may be used in museum exhibit. The only place on the grounds where photography is not allowed is in The Great Mausoleum.

The address for Forest Lawn Museum is 1712 S. Glendale Ave, Glendale, CA 91205. Enter the main gate and proceed up the hill, following signs to the museum, which is located at the top of the hill. There is plenty of free parking.

Please RSVP to Jodi Kurland at membership@la3dclub.com by 12pm, Friday, March 4, 2022. We look forward to seeing you in person!
