The January meeting of the LA 3-D Club will take place on Thursday, January 16th from 7:00pm – 9:30pm at the Velaslavasay Panorama, 1122 W 24th St, Los Angeles, CA 90007
The evening will include the 3rd competition of the LA 3-D Club year. The special theme for this month is FLOWERS. We are still working to fix the file UPLOADER – please watch the uploader page for further instructions on how to enter this month’s competition.
The evening will also feature a historical look at the classic 3-D movie BWANA DEVIL. In November of 1952, Arch Oboler’s independent feature film, BWANA DEVIL, filmed in Natural Vision, took Hollywood by storm and launched the 3-D movie craze of the 1950s. But how did this motion picture come to be?
Last year, the 3-D Film Archive released a digitally restored version of this important movie, and 3-D historian Mike Ballew teamed up with 3-D SPACE to create a 20-minute documentary, included on the blu-ray release. We will take a look at this show, which goes in depth to tell the story of Milton Gunzburg’s Natural Vision camera system, and how it became the key to the success of Arch Oboler’s picture.
The meeting will conclude with a club member “Show-and-Tell.” We would love to see your favorite 3-D images and collectibles. Members are encouraged to share an item of interest with the rest of the attendees. Share you favorite photos, videos, and 3-D items.
