June Virtual Meeting – 6/17/21

Due to the worldwide public health emergency, upcoming physical meetings of the LA 3-D Club have been suspended. While we hope to be able to meet in person again very soon, we are currently holding virtual meetings.

The June virtual meeting of the LA 3-D Club will take place on Thursday, June 17 from 7:00pm – 8:30pm on Zoom at la3d.club.

The evening will begin with memories of LA 3-D Club past president Chris Olson (1994-1996). Christopher B. Olson passed away Sunday April 25, 2021 after a 2-year battle with cancer. He was 63. Chris passed at his home in Woodland Hills surrounded by his wife Judy, son Sean and sister Elizabeth. Chris first caught the 3-D bug from fellow co-worker and friend Jim Carbonetti while both worked for gameshow legend Goodson-Tod-man Productions in Hollywood. Chris was very well liked in many arenas and appreciated any-thing of good quality from any era. In November 2014 he was a member of an elite group of judges gathered to informally evaluate the quality of numerous classic slide viewers in a “shootout”. He correctly came to the conclusion that the Kodaslide II was the best of the bunch! Just an overall Great Guy who was taken way too early…He will be missed.  A small memorial will be safely held sometime this summer in the Northern California Bay Area. Written by Jim Carbonetti.

“Chris was joy and a totally positive influence in the stereo club, with his constant smile and non-stop laugh.  He was a marvelous SCSC President, and he will be missed forever.” Remembrance by Susan Pinsky.

Club members are invited to share their own memories and photos of Chris during the meeting.

The meeting will also feature a a short tutorial on using phone apps for 3D photography.  The apps include 3DSteroid Pro for Android and i3DSteroid, i3DPortrait, i3DMoviemaker, i3MovieCam and i3DPortrait for iOS, all by Masuji Suto.  Some of the newer apps only work on late model iPhones.  You may want to download these apps from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store on your phone before the workshop so you can have questions.

In addition, we will check out the LA 3-D Club archive website and show how you can access and read complete back issues of the club’s 3-D NEWS newsletter. We’ll also take a look at the promotional video for this year’s National Stereoscopic Association 3D-Con, being held online August 12-15, 2021, and 3D-Con technical director Dave Comeau will tell us about some of the features and events that will be a part of the virtual convention. You can learn more at 3D-Con.com

The meeting will conclude with a club member “Show-and-Tell.” We would love to see your favorite 3-D image, camera, or collectible. Member’s are encouraged to share an item of interest with the rest of the attendees.

Please join our meeting from your computer, tablet or smartphone.

Members can sign in early at 6:30pm to socialize. All are welcome to attend.
