The meeting will open with a club member “Halloween Show-and-Tell.” We would love to see your favorite spooky 3-D image, or haunted stereoscopic item. Member’s are encouraged to share an item of interest with the rest of the attendees.
Our special guest this month is award-winning artist, filmmaker, and author David A. Bossert, to talk about his new book, 3D Disneyland: Like You’ve Never Seen It Before.
As Disneyland celebrates its 65th Anniversary this month, the new book 3D Disneyland: Like You’ve Never Seen It Before showcases a rare, never-before seen collection of 3D photographs of Walt Disney’s original theme park in all its glory from its inception in 1955 to present day.
“With 3D Disneyland: Like You’ve Never Seen It Before, the park is always open!” said author,David A. Bossert. Disneyland is captured in “time and space” from its opening week in July of 1955 through the 25th Anniversary in 1980 and beyond. See attractions that no longer exist like the Skyway to Tomorrowland and Skyway to Fantasyland, the original Submarine Voyage, Conestoga Wagons, the House of the Future, and more along with vantage points that have changed drastically over the decades.
The book contains close to 100 original 3D photographs taken by Ted Kierscey. 3D glasses are included in the book which offers a rare glimpse back in history at the Happiest Place on Earth.
While working at Walt Disney Animation Studios, Bossert shared an office with Disney effects animator Ted Kierscey. When Kierscey was 15 years old, he bought himself a Kodak Aniston 3D camera and took it to Disneyland the first week that it was open in July of 1955. He also continued returning to the park taking 3D photographs throughout the years, most of which have never been seen except by a handful of people including Bossert.
3D Disneyland: Like You’ve Never Seen it Before, by David A. Bossert with photographs by Ted Kierscey, will be released on October 15, 2020. Copies are available through the publisher at www.theoldmillpress.com.
