EXTENDED FOR A 5th WEEK!!!

See The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet in 3-D!

The 2013 Jean-Pierre Jeunet film The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet is finally getting a limited U.S. release. It is showing in 3-D for one week at the Downtown Independent starting Friday, July 31st! This film is not to be missed! Shot in native 3-D, Jeunet cleverly weaves the third dimension into the story. Beautifully shot, this English language adventure film is heartwarming, funny, quirky, and bittersweet.

A ten-year-old cartographer secretly leaves his family’s ranch in Montana where he lives with his cowboy father and scientist mother and travels across the country aboard a freight train to receive an award at the Smithsonian Institute.

Go see The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet and support 3-D cinema and the Downtown Independent! It needs an audience to spread the word and show that there is a market for unique, thoughtful 3-D movies.

Here’s what LA 3-D Club members are saying:

“The film is FANTASTIC! It MUST BE seen in 3-D!!!! I have seen it twice and I’m ready for another screening!” -Lawrence Kaufman

“It is a beautiful movie with a wonderful story. I was very impressed with the young actor. Highly recommended!” -Cassie Kaufman

“Wow, T S Spivet was good!  I’m so glad I made the effort to see it…Damn you Harvey Weinstein for dumping this film! Visually the 3D was excellent, thoughtful, inventive, dazzling in some places, Wonderful photography. Sit up close. You can really tell this is made by the guy who made Amelié. It’s got the same playfulness, surrealism, subtle  visual effects to add magic or surrealism, like a talking pumpkin under the bed.  It’s got some whimsical animated graphic overlays ala DaVinci inventions to illustrate some concepts and it’s got some nice CG interstitials that look like stop motion paper pop-up books to signal a new chapter. That same red and green color scheme of Amalie is evident here throuout, as are all sorts visual joys. The story is simple and rewarding in a formulaic way, a happy ending. Bright kid overcomes adversity to redemption…Go see it and sit up close.” -Chris Casady

“The acting was great, the story interesting and the effects were really unique and various. Great family pic, too, I would think.” -Heather Lowe

“Thanks again for taking the trouble to tell me about the LA date for SPIVET, upon which I feasted (visually) yesterday afternoon…Although I’m sure it looks sumptuous in 2-D with its superior Scope framing, its brilliant use of 3D is a treat beyond measure…It was the high point of my movie year, thus far, and I plan to return to see it again on the Downtown Indie giant screen in a day or two…A new benchmark for stereo, I think!” -Charles Ziarko
