Annual Equipment Auction 2010

Annual Equipment Auction 2010

By Jeff Amaral

Every year D. Kuntz would exhort our fellow Club members to clean out their closets and bring items to our Annual Equipment Auction. This year, I decided to follow his advice, and dug deep into the cellar to bring in a number of projectors and such that have been donated to the club. Susan Chapman kindly donated some items that belonged to her father, an NSA member who her recently passed away, including a nice Stereo Vivid Projector. Also Ms Margaret Jasni, our oldest club member and the only one that can really keep up with Olly, donated an almost new projector and screen she has been holding onto for an undisclosed amount of time. This brought the total number of items sold during the evening to almost 40, and a lot of these items were a 100% donation to the club. As a result, both the total sales volume and Club proceeds from the evening were very respectable. Thank you ladies, and to all others who donated generously (including me selling my good stuff for a 100% donation to the club to make up for the fact I might be sending out way too many incorrect and threatening renewal demands…)

However, the low sales volume didn’t stop the attendees from having a good time and engaging in spirited bidding for a wide variety of 3-D photographica, collectibles and ephemera. As always, David Starkman served as Auctioneer, capably describing the use and history of even the most obscure of these items, and nimbly guiding the bidding. Equipment runner Lawrence Kaufman, distinctive in his baby blue pajamas, kept the flow of merchandise steady so that all items were presented by 10pm. Susan Pinsky once again assisted me at the Cashier’s table, where activity was less frenetic than in past years due to plagiarism in the treasurer’s auction reporting…
