LA 3-D Club Presents Historical 3-D at Heritage Square Museum
The LA 3-D Club will be displaying and presenting 19th and early 20th century stereoscopic 3-D images and devices at Heritage Square Museum during September and October 2014. The period from 1860 to 1930 was a golden age of stereo photography. Stereoscopes were a common item in many Victorian homes, and stereo cards photographically documented life of the time and important events. They were an early mass medium that filled the role that television, radio, film and magazines play today in recording events, scenic views and landmarks in history. 3-D was also present at the very dawn of the movies, with the first three dimensional motion pictures produced in the 1890s.
Through exhibits of antique stereoscopes and cameras, video documentaries, special presentations, and hands-on opportunities to view 3-D stereo cards, Heritage Square’s guests will learn about how 3-D was part of life during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Members of the LA 3-D Club will act as docents in the gallery space during the museums open hours to answer questions the public may have about the exhibit and 3-D in general.
In addition to the display, the LA 3-D Club will also give a special presentation on the history of 3-D on September 7 at 5 p.m. and will co-host the annual Halloween Movie Night event with a themed outdoor 3-D movie screening on Saturday, October 18th at 7:00 p.m.
