The Los Angeles 3-D Club Movie Division will be screening the Award winners of The 7th Annual LA 3-D Movie Festival on Thursday, June 17 at the regular monthly meeting of the Stereo Club of Southern California (SCSC) 7:30 pm at the Armory for the Arts, 145 N. Raymond, Pasadena, CA 91103. The 7th Annual LA 3D Movie Festival was held recently at the Downtown Independent Theater and the three top award winners plus selected 3D entries by SCSC members will be screened.
“This year’s festival featured 26 amazing stereoscopic films from all over the world,” stated LA 3-D Movie Festival Director Eric Kurland. “These selections demonstrate just how creative and diverse the independent 3-DIY filmmaking community is today.”
First Place Award and Audience Award winner was “Fractal Odyssey” by John Hart and Jerry Oldaker, an unprecedented 15 minute 3-D film that featured animated Mandelbrot sets and Fractal Frames transforming and morphing under slow parametric variations, a technical and artistic landmark for stereoscopic cinema.
Second Place Jury Award went to “MicroWorlds,” by Greg Passmore, a live-action 3-D educational science film that explores the world of life that goes on, unseen, all around us. From the earthworms in our backyards to the alien beauty of a garden snail, MicroWorlds provided an astonishing 3-D glimpse into the patterns, cycles, and daily rituals on our planet with the flora and fauna that surround us.
Third Place Jury Award went to “Spinteck 3-D Shorts” by Nat Bartholomew documenting a daring extreme sports bicycle ride freestyle through a rugged desert area in Utah.
Award winners were presented with the SCSC traditional “Ro-Man” trophy. “These selections demonstrate just how creative and diverse the independent 3-DIY filmmaking community is today,” said Kurland. “Ray Zone and I are both excited to be providing a continuing platform for 3-DIY filmmakers at SCSC and our wonderful new Downtown venue. In addition to projecting monthly 3-D programs at SCSC and the Downtown Theater we are holding Open 3-D Screen nights with our 3-DIY Movie Division meetings downtown every ninety days.
