The LA 3-D Club Presents: French 3-D Cinema Showcase Sunday, July 14, 11:30am at the Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles

French cinema has always been at the forefront of the experimental and the avant-garde. And in the world of independent 3-D filmmaking some of the most innovative stereoscopic work has been produced by the latest generation of French filmmakers. Join us as the LA 3-D Club partners with the Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles  to present a showcase of films from French directors. Live action, animation, narrative, experimental, and all brilliantly crafted in the art of stereoscopic 3-D.
Featured in the program will be a number of highly lauded 3-D short films:
  • “The Third Way” directed by Jean-Michel Tari
  • “Shooting” directed by Jerome Diamant-Berger
  • “Of Mice (A Cat) and Men” directed by Camille Bovier LaPierre
  • “Outsiplou” directed by Damien Montaron
  • “Inner Fire” directed by Celine Tricart
  • “Réminiscence” directed by Celine Tricart

The screening will also pay tribute to the late 3-D filmmaker Dominique Benicheti, with a special screening of his short film “La Revole.” Dominique Benicheti was a producer, writer, director and technician, he directed and/or produced more than 40 films; documentaries, scientific and animation. He may best be remembered for his very first film, the 1972 Cinemascope documentary feature film “Le Cousin Jules (Cousin Jules).” He went into special format films with Futuroscope (or Parc du Futuroscope,) the French theme park based on multimedia, as director, writer or consultant on 3-D movies and large format films. Benicheti, who passed away in 2011, was an incredibly technologically minded filmmaker who is best known as being on the forefront of artfully using 3-D in French cinema.
  • “La Revole, French Musical, A Fairy Tale.” La Revole is the popular term for the feast of the last day of wine harvest in the Beaujolais region. “La Revole,” was called the first French 3-D musical. Shot in 70mm with the Stereovision lens.
The Downtown Film Festival L.A., now in its 5th year, will be held this year July 10-20 at the Downtown Independent Theater, the AT&T Center Theater, the Grammy Museum Clive Davis Theater, the Arena Cinema and alternative venues throughout downtown.
