Levi’s Film Workshop/S3D@USC 3-D Panel and 3-D Open Screen – July 10, 2011

USC’s new stereoscopic research unit  S3D@USC, The Levis Film Workshop, and the LA 3-D Club (SCSC) present an exciting panel on THE FUTURE OF 3-D FILMMAKING.  This panel will focus on the difficulties and rewards of taking 3-D out of the studios and putting it into the hands of Independent DIY 3-D filmmakers.

Featured Panelists Include:

Shannon Benna
Hollywood’s first female feature film stereographer

Ian Spohr and Roham Rahmania
Producer and Stereographer of the recent 3-D short Unbeleafable developed as part of the Levi’s Film Workshop

Andrew B. Parke:
Independent DP and Stereographer

Ray Zone
3-D film historian, filmmaker and author

Eric Kurland
3-D director of OK Go’s White Knuckles

Moderated by Perry Hoberman of S3D@USC

This panel will provide audience members with an inside look behind how these filmmakers are approaching the use of 3-D in their productions. Come listen to their perspectives on 3-D and how this technology is shifting the way we watch and tell stories. If you are interested in getting your feet wet with 3-D and want to keep your indie aesthetic this panel is for you.

Immediately following the panel, the LA 3-D Club will hold a “3-DIY Open Screen”. We invite you to bring your own stereoscopic video on hard drive, flash drive or optical drive, to add to the potluck of 3-D content. In addition to DCI compliant digital cinema packages (DCPs), we are able to play many file based formats – avi, wmv, xvid, mov, h264, Proshow exe, etc., and most 3-D formats – parallel, cross-view, over/under, L/R dual streams, etc. at resolutions up to 1080p HD (with some bandwith limitations). Caveat – while we will do our best to play all content we receive, we make no guarantees, as there are so many file variables to deal with. Content is shown on a “first come, first served” basis, time permitting.

Attendance is FREE with advance RSVP at http://futureof3d.eventbrite.com/
$5 at the door for current LA3DClub members
$10 at the door for non-members (admission is waived with USC Student ID)
