Entries for which fees have not been received by the Closing Date, February 5, 2012, will not be judged.

1. The Exhibition is open to anyone; however, an entry may be rejected when the sponsoring organization or its agent in its reasonable discretion believes the entry does not conform to exhibition rules and conditions.
2. Entries must be limited to not more than four stereo digital images. The title and maker’s name should not appear in the image.
3. Entries must originate as photographs (images-captures of objects via light sensitivity) made by the entrant. Images may be acquired on traditional film and scanned to an electronic file or acquired electronically. By virtue of submitting an entry, the entrant certifies the work as his own and permits the sponsors to reproduce all or part of the entered material free of charge for publication and/or display in media related to the exhibition. This may include low resolution posting on a website. The exhibition assumes no liability for any misuse of copyright. (Submission implies acceptance of all conditions.)
4. Images may be altered, either electronically or otherwise, by the maker and artwork or computer graphics created by the entrant may be incorporated if the photographic content predominates.
5. Images previously accepted may not be reentered regardless of title.
6. An entrant’s four images will be distributed throughout four rounds of judging.
7. Selection will follow the current Photographic Society of America’s (PSA, psa-photo.org) Consolidated Exhibition Standards (CES) and PSA Uniform Judging Practices.
8. Electronic entry payment must be received prior to Closing Date, email info to chairperson.
9. All accepted entries will be credited to the entrants at the showings and in the catalog (which will be emailed to entrants and posted on the LA 3D Club website, la3dclub.com.) Names of accepted entrants will be submitted for listing credit in PSA’s “Who’s Who in Stereo Photography” and for Star Rating records.
10. Report cards will be emailed, unless a written copy is requested.
11. All possible care will be exercised in handling of all entries, but no responsibility is assumed for loss or damage of entries during the Exhibition or in transit.
12. The filename should be the same as the image title, alphanumeric only, no punctuation, without your name. One JPEG file per image-pair, side-by-side, left on left, right on right, no margins, no line down the middle. Images will be re-sampled by the projection system to 1400 x 1050 pixels maximum, each eye; 2800 x 1050 total for the stereo pair. Please wait patiently for your files to upload. Do not navigate away from the uploader page. It will take several minutes.

Stereoscopic 3D Showcase

Time: 6:30-7:30 pm Social Hour, Screening starts at 7:30 pm

What: An informal non-competitive screening showcasing the works of local stereoscopic 3D artists. This event will focus on members’ work from both organizations.

Price: Free for members of LA ACM SIGGRAPH and LA 3-D Club, $20 for visitors, and $40 for new and renewing members of LA ACM SIGGRAPH. To encourage participation, non-members whose films are chosen get free admission for themselves and a guest.

How you can get involved: Submit your best 3-D Stereoscopic work for our informal, non-competitive animation screening. Pieces should be no longer than 5 minutes in length and should be a digital format.

Formats:   Our preferred method of submission is via Youtube’s 3-D player. Email us the URL to your uploaded Youtube video. You may upload your work to youtube as an unlisted video if you do not wish to make it visible to others. Instructions for Youtube 3-D can be found at la3dclub.com/youtube/. Movies may be submitted for consideration on DVD/Blu-ray, Flash Drive, or Hard Drive, as well as through FTP via the LA SIGGRAPH website (email vice-chair@la-siggraph.org for instructions).

There are no entry fees. Members of the Los Angeles ACM SIGGRAPH Council will notify accepted entrants via email. Those artists whose works are chosen to appear in the animation screening will receive free admission to the event. Persons of all ages may submit work and attend the event.  Entry forms are currently being written and will be available on November 1st. They should be included with each submission.

Mark your calendars now for the annual LA 3D Club Holiday Party, to be held December 15, 2011 (the third Thursday), starting with dinner at Pitfire Pizza in downtown LA, followed by a special 3-D screening just a few steps from the restaurant at the Downtown Independent Theater. $20 gets you a ticket for both dinner and the show!

Pitfire pizza will be providing a buffet style meal including pizza, pasta, salad and soft drink. In addition, they will be offering a “Brewery Night” special of artisan beers at $2/pour.

The main feature of the evening will be the 3D program on the big screen. We will be presenting four remarkable works by renowned stereo photographer Robert Bloomberg of San Francisco, who will also be in attendance.

“Wish You Were Here: Postcards from Somewhere Else” (8 min)

Greetings from some of the world’s most famous and not-so-famous sites.

“El Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead)”  (14 min)

Once a year, at the beginning of November, Mexico celebrates one of its most joyous holidays, when those who have died return to earth for a brief time to rejoin the living.  Altars are built in homes, churches, and public squares, to welcome the dead with offerings of food and favorite mementos. The celebration culminates in an all-night vigil at the cemetery with food, drink, candles and stories to honor and keep alive the memory of the departed souls.

“The Lost Temples of Angkor” (26 min)
A thousand years ago the great Khmer civilization arose in the jungles of Cambodia and came to dominate all of Southeast Asia. The magnificent architecture and exquisite sculpture of its temples illustrate the myths, religions and history of this remarkable culture. The ruins are now a World Heritage Site, and include Angkor Wat, the largest religious structure in the world.

“The City Quakes: The San Francisco Earthquakes of 1906 and 1989”  (26 min)
The San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of 1906 was the worst natural disaster in American history and the first to spark a worldwide media frenzy. This show features rare images never before seen in 3-D, as well as dramatic stereo photos of the 1989 Loma Prieta quake.

Robert Bloomberg is a filmmaker, musician, and avid stereo photographer whose award-winning 3-D shows have been presented worldwide. He was recently honored with a lifetime fellowship from the National Stereoscopic Association and is the Stereo Technical Advisor for the Photographic Society of America.

Bob Bloomberg has been recognized twice by the National Stereoscopic Association with the prestigious Paul Wing Award. He is regional director of the NSA for Northern California and served as theater director for the legendary 2000 NSA convention in Riverside, CA. (the first ever 3-D Dive-In!)

On Sunday, November 20th, the LA 3-D Club will hold a “3-DIY Open Screen”. We invite you to bring your own stereoscopic video on hard drive, flash drive or optical drive, to add to the potluck of 3-D content. In addition to DCI compliant digital cinema packages (DCPs), we are able to play many file based formats – avi, wmv, xvid, mov, h264, Proshow exe, etc., and most 3-D formats – parallel, cross-view, over/under, L/R dual streams, etc. at resolutions up to 1080p HD (with some bandwith limitations). Caveat – while we will do our best to play all content we receive, we make no guarantees, as there are so many file variables to deal with. Content is shown on a “first come, first served” basis, time permitting.

In addition, we’ll take a look at a variety of trailers from recent and upcoming 3-D Hollywood features

Shot inside a 200-year-old mansion in Pasadena, CA, “A Haunting in Salem” is a gritty ghost tale written by H. Perry Horton and directed by Shane Van Dyke,  which centers on the character of Kyle (Nicholas Harsin), who has just moved into the town of Salem, with his father (Bill Oberst, Jr.), the sheriff. In Salem, Kyle discovers that his new home is tormented by vengeful ghosts. Realizing that his family is the victim of an old curse, Kyle sets out to rescue his family.

The screening will feature a Q&A with Stereographer Shannon Benna, and other members of the cast and crew.

Twice a year, the Nethercutt Collection opens its Music Room to the public and holds a very special silent film screening with live musical accompaniment. While the silent films are not in 3-D, the event should be of interest to any fan of vintage cinema. The entire presentation is unique in that the films are projected via a vintage hand cranked film projector by noted film historian and itinerant projectionist Joe Rinaudo.

Last October, a group of club members visited the Nethercutt Museum and enjoyed photographing the beautiful vehicles in 3-D. We also toured the locomotive and private train car. Those of us who were lucky enough to get tickets attended the silent film screening, a collection of Halloween themed pieces, and enjoyed demonstrations of the various musical instruments.

This year’s October silent film screening is approaching and once again we’d like to invite club members to take advantage of this rare  opportunity. On Saturday, October 22nd, we will meet up at the museum at 12pm to explore the gallery, followed by the silent movie at 2pm. Members who wish to attend the silent film screening must obtain their own tickets. The free tickets are only available by calling  (818) 364-6464 on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21st between 4:00PM and 6:00 PM. Tickets are not available at the door and the Nethercutt does not offer any kind of group reservation so it’s very important that members who wish to see the movie request their own tickets. In the past, the phone lines have been very busy and the shows fill up very quickly, so we ask that any members who do get through to request the maximum number of tickets (4) to share with other club members who may not get through.

This year’s edition will be held October 8-9, 2011, once again taking over galleries, cafes, and theatres across Downtown Culver City in a celebration of independent games of every genre and platform from around the world. Click here for the entire festival overview!

At 5:30 pm on Saturday October 8th, The LA 3-D Club (SCSC) presents a brief history of stereoscopic gaming. 3-D producer and historian Ray Zone will provide historic overview of 3-D, from the earliest days of photography, to the golden age of cinema, to the digital age of 3dtv and handheld devices, and the modern tools that are available to game designers. There will be several examples of 80′s era stereoscopic games on display. And the presentation will culminate with a look at the LG Thrill Indicade 3-D games.

Shot against the harsh and beautiful landscape of northern Australia, Cane Toads: The Conquest tracks the unstoppable journey of the toad across the continent. Director Mark Lewis (Cane Toads: An Unnatural History, The Natural History of the Chicken) injects his trademark irreverence and hum…or into the story as he follows a trail of human conflict, bizarre culture and extraordinary close encounters.

Filmed with high-resolution 3D technology, Cane Toads is the first Australian digital 3D feature film. Custom designed equipment allows viewers to get up close and personal with these curious creatures like never before. The unique viewing experience is like being immersed in the world of the toad.
