Our next Club Outing is scheduled for Saturday, October 16th. It is a FREE event at The Nethercutt Collection in Sylmar, CA. Opened in 1971, The Nethercutt Collection features rare collectibles ranging from mechanical musical instruments and antique furniture to over 250 American and European automobiles dating from 1898 to 1997. First, around 12pm, we will visit the Nethercutt Collection, which should provide fantastic opportunities for unique 3-D photos. At 2pm, we will attend a screening of silent movies projected by Joe Rinaudo via his vintage hand cranked film projector, accompanied by organist Dean Mora.

Free tickets for the screening must be obtained in advance and will be available by calling on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH FROM 4:00-6:00 PM. There is a limit of 4 tickets per household. Also, there are no group tickets, so if you and some of your friends want to attend this event, please call for up to four people. The ticket number is 818-364-6464. Contact Jodi if you have any questions.

The LA3DClub has teamed up with the Downtown Independent Theater to present screenings of independent 3-D movies in Los Angeles.

The LA3DClub has teamed up with the Downtown Independent Theater to present screenings of independent 3-D movies in Los Angeles.

We will present a rare screening of Rottweiler in 3-D on Sunday, August 29 at 7:30 pm at the Downtown Independent Theater with personal appearances by Lenny Lipton and Chris Condon, the two legendary 3-D experts behind this 1981 production. This one-time only screening is a unique opportunity to see one… of the few indie 3-D feature films from the wave of stereoscopic movies in the 1980s.

Rottweiler in 3-D was produced by Earl Owensby (EO Productions) in North Carolina and shot with Chris Condon’s StereoVision single-strip 35mm 3-D film process. Lipton was the stereographer on the project. An original 3-D print from 1981 will be projected for the screening and 3-D glasses will be provided. Along with Rottweiler in 3-D, a short promotional 3-D film produced by Lipton and Condon titled Dimensions of Oldsmobile Quality will be screened. This will be the first public screening of this ultra-rare promotional 3-D short.

After the screening of the 3-D films Lipton and Condon will be interviewed in a Q&A session by 3-D movie historian Ray Zone and take questions from the audience. Both Lipton and Condon are featured in a 2005 book written by Zone called 3-D Filmmakers: Conversations with Creators of Stereoscopic Motion Pictures.

In addition to the evening’s feature presentation. At 3pm we will be presenting a special FREE afternoon showcase of independent 3-D shorts from the 7th Annual LA 3-D Movie Festival, followed by a potluck BBQ reception at the Downtown Independent’s rooftop bar.
Computer-generated graphical patterns, presented stereoscopically, migh=
t be very interesting in an art show.=A0=A0=A0 As artists become more famil=
iar with the tools, it may be possible to intentionally create “predic=
tive patterns” to the extent that they would be legitimately considere=
d works of art in themselves, since the particular tweaking of the variatio=
n factors would be a creative decision of the artist, not a random occurren=
ce resulting only from the effects of a pre-existing combination.=A0=A0 At =
this point, it may be considered “art” only from the standpoint o=
f selection (the artist’s “self” expressed in terms of editin=
g), but in the future, the “artist” will be able to influence the=
results predictively and precisely, thereby earning the label of “art=
” for the entirety of the creation.
